Registered in about two decades ago, the purpose of The Club has been to serve as a uniting entity of the Bulgarian students at Harvard. The main activities were gatherings and social events to celebrate Bulgarian holidays and the birthdays of the members.
The role of The Club changed dramatically since then. Now it not only serves its original purposes, but extends to acting as an informational kernel of the Bulgarian student society throughout the United States. We announce and organize meetings with politicians, international leaders and artists. Some of out guests in the recent years have been the former President of Bulgaria Mr. Petar Stoyanov, former Prime Minister Mr. Sergey Stanishev, former Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr. Ivalio Kalfin, and former European Commissioner Ms. Meglena Kuneva.
Overall, the Harvard Bulgarian Club is concerned with the political, social, and cultural issues regarding Bulgaria. The group seeks to promote greater awareness and understanding of these issues in the Harvard community by appropriate means such as publications, meetings, seminars, and other education activities.
For that purposes, membership is now open not only to Harvard Students, but to all Bulgarian students in America and Canada. We also have a special membership clause for our contributors, sponsors, and other people related to The Club's activities. People and organizations of other kinds that collaborate with The Club's activities are accepted as special type members.
Finally, many Bulgarian or Bulgarian-related organizations and companies turn to The Club in search of students for prospective employment opportunities and business relations. The Club is at the core of a strong professional network of alumni, affiliates and friends who provide opportunities and assistance to each other and the current graduate and undergraduate students at Harvard University.
